Our Now & Our Future at Rainbow Fund for South Africa
Make a difference today by donating towards a brighter future for the children.
What Has Already Been Achieved
The school has already grown from its humble roots in a shipping container to now being housed in a beautiful brick building and has become an important community centre. It provides a safe, caring and happy school environment for the children, giving them security and stability which is often missing in their lives.
It brings us so much joy that the school has grown from twenty students to two hundred and from a teaching team of one to nine.
We are Proud to Share That we Have a 100% Success Rate in Progressing the Children From Primary School into High School Education
The Skills Programme Initiative has provided crafting and computer skills for the children but has also created jobs for some of the parents. We are overjoyed that some of our students have gone on to become teachers themselves and one alumni is even a South Africa Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Read here for more stories about our students.
During the Covid-19 pandemic even though the school was forced to close, the fund were able to financially support the teachers and we also sent out food parcels to 130 families.
School Outings
Every year we have three outings for the school in general and one extra outing for the children following the Skills Programme. These are the highlight of the children's lives since it provides an opportunity to travel beyond the boundary of the Township and offers an experience that the parents and carers could not afford to give them.
Since participation depends on regular attendance at the school it also acts as a huge incentive. In the past we have visited Parliament, the Aquarium, The Public Swimming Pools, Art Galleries and the Natural History Museum.
We aim to increase these outings to four and offer a small programme through the school holidays.
What Does the Future Hold For the School?
The offerings of this small but important School is all made possible exclusively thanks to the generous contributions of our donors. Our objective is to continue fundraising to be able to maintain these services and help the children and provide a better future for them.
With Additional Annual Funding, Our Aims are To
Provide additional computers.
Welcome more children to the school.
Open the school on some days during the holidays for activities & meals.
Increase the number of outings per year from three to four to broaden the children’s horizons.
Expand the Skills Programme to include more subjects such as photography and DIY.
Start a Library Programme where children are taught to read in both English and Xhosa. Whilst the main language in the Township is Khosa most cannot read the language and the school lessons are in English.
